Stereotypical Identity
Stereotypical Identity is a tribute and an opportunity for our female artists to express their deepest, innermost feelings in the language of art. It focuses on contemporary artists using a variety of mediums to challenge the notions of identity and gender. It ranges across the current time and place, as well as social and cultural contexts, to represent the diversity in the approach that women have taken in depicting one another. The exhibition showcases a series of artworks by 8 artists: Belinda, Christeena Shaju, Hemalatha N S, Maya Nelluri, Runa Biswas, Sabita Lakshmana, Shreya Chajjed, Vineetha W that uncovers the artistic journey of these artists to find their opinion, mode of expression, and visual style.
It exhibits an assortment of techniques and styles that are distinctive. It takes us through from Runa’s unique figurative style to Vineetha’s eccentric surreal figures to Sabita’s beautiful play of natural colour to Shreya’s simple metamorphic forms. The goal of this exhibition is to encourage female artists to break away from the visual modes and vocabulary of the current traditions.
